Leigh-on-Sea, a town in the borough of Southend-on-Sea, was named one of the ĎTop 30 Coolest Places in Britain to Liveí in the Times newspaper in 2013, and not without reason. A vibrant fishing town, Leigh is buzzing with independent businesses, boutiques, cafes and parks, with several beaches close by.
There is also a great cultural heritage to the area, with music festivals, a film festival, and an annual Art Trail that combine to provide a sense of cultural community.
Spinnakerís proximity to the coast means we have a great connection to the Thames Estuary, which sees container ships and cargo vessels sailing by on a daily basis. As a shipping recruitment agency, being so close to ports such as the London Gateway, it puts our work into context.
Lauren joined Spinnaker in 2011 having completed her MSci in Zoology. She moved to the commercial division as an Associate Consultant before moving up to Recruitment Consultant specialising in Commercial European placements. It was here that she was responsible for one of Spinnakerís biggest placement fees. In January 2015 Lauren was promoted to Team Leader, responsible for managing her own desk maintaining personal billings as well as managing a team of Associate and Recruitment Consultants.
Matthew joined Spinnaker in the summer of 2012 after graduating with an English Literature degree, and worked on our Europe desk recruiting for the Technical Division, before moving onto the Middle East desk. Matt soon started working on some of our key accounts, particularly in the offshore sector, and helped some of our consultants have their most successful year. Just over a year into our graduate scheme, Matt has been promoted to Technical Consultant solely responsible for the USA and Canada, and is a successful and popular member of the team. In 2015 Matthew was promoted to Team Leader where he manages the whole North America team.
David joined us in 2010, working in the Commercial Division resourcing candidates for Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark. David was promoted to a Recruitment Consultant in 2011 developing the Middle East desk, where he made his biggest placement to date. In 2012 he moved to our Technical Division to develop Scotland and soon took on the rest of the UK. David became a Team Leader within the Technical Division in early 2014; his first step on our management career route, closely followed by a promotion to Senior Consultant.

We like to hire a good mix of people at Spinnaker. Our Graduate Trainee Scheme is open to bright school leavers and second jobbers at the start of their careers, and weíre also keen to have experienced consultants join the team.
All new recruits receive a personally-tailored Induction Programme from day one. Amy joined Spinnaker in January 2004 as a Trainee Consultant, with no prior experience. She quickly established herself as a very successful consultant, billing over £300k by her third year with us. Amy was promoted to Manager in June 2007 and then transferred to Principal Consultant. With this broad range of experience, Amy was best-placed to be our Training Executive, who is present on the journey of all new staff from their first day to the completion of their induction.
Phil is the co-founder and chairman of Spinnaker, and widely acknowledged as an expert in maritime HR and benchmarking issues. He practised law with maritime law firm Ince & Co where he specialised in shipping and insurance law. He holds a Maritime Business & Law degree and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business by Plymouth University in 2012.
Teresa joined Spinnaker Consulting in 2008 and works alongside the CEO and Chairman as the Managing Director of the recruitment business. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals, and has experience across a wide range of industry sectors. In addition, Teresa works closely with our Associate Consultants during their induction and plays a big part in their transition to Recruitment Consultant.
